But what can a person do to make their travel experience more meaningful? With a few simple strategies, you can turn your vacation into a transformation, changing both yourself and the world for the better. It’s this vision of transformative travel that Liz Scherle (www.whereisliz.com) will expand upon in a public event on Saturday, November 15, 2003 "What a lot of us don’t realize is that every time we travel, we are, in effect, ambassadors. We directly help form the impression that people in other countries have of our homeland." "My mission is tri-fold: To learn how to be a global ambassador, to teach others how to do it, and to allow everyone to participate by sharing what they have, be it time, talent or resources." Included in the evening’s entertainment will be a short audio/visual presentation from Scherle's latest 4-month solo trip. Additionally, global travel experts, including Marc Gold of 100Friends.com, will be on hand to share their insights. The evening will also be an opportunity for people to share with each other about places they have been to, or hope to travel to in the future. "The world’s problems are big, and none of us alone can solve all of them, but we can each do something to make the world a better place. Small efforts can add up in ways we can’t even imagine." "This is my attempt to help, by bringing a community of caring people together in support of world peace and global understanding." says Scherle. Admission to the event is free, and funds will be raised by the sale of refreshments and with a silent auction of goods and services donated by local businesses, including pajamas by Bay Area designer (and Oprah’s favorite) Karen Neuburger (karenneuburger.com). All proceeds will go toward the support of people and projects in third world areas through the Where Is Liz Peace Partnership. Everyone attending will receive a Peace Partnership Passport, complete with his or her photograph as a Global Ambassador, supplied in generous support by professional photographer Lori Cheung (thePortraitPhotographer.com). Tell a travel story, listen to a few, hoist a few, network with other travelers and writers, maybe get your work published online. The theme for this month is: "Where in the world have you been, and what did you do there to make the world a better place? Did you make friends, volunteer, donate time and/or money?" Guest speaker is artist, web designer and world traveler Liz Scherle. Beer and wine available at the bar. Seating for this event is limited, so RSVPs are vital.
